Standard Aptitude Tests

Standard Aptitude tests measure your capabilities, not your interests. Aptitude tests measure what your strengths are and what type of activities you can do well now and will more than likely continue to do well in the future.

Understanding your interests is also important, but no matter how interested you are in a given area, you will not be successful in that area if you don’t have the required capabilities to do the job. Start with taking one or two aptitude tests, and look for careers that you have a good aptitude for. Then, narrow your options using your interests as a guide.

Aptitude tests vary but many test the following skills:

  • Business
  • Clerical
  • Logical
  • Mechanical
  • Numerical
  • Social

Other skills that may be measured include the following:

  • Spatial
  • Abstract
  • Reasoning
  • Problem Solving
  • Forethought
  • Memory
  • Intuition
  • Visual Dexterity
  • Manual Speed and Accuracy
  • Creativity
  • Artistic Ability
  • Social Intelligence
  • Kinesthetic (body)
